The Ethiopian Crown Council granted Melillo the title of Knight Commander of the Ethiopian Order of the Star, a chivalric order that honors both local and foreign individuals for their contributions to Ethiopia.

These signature cigars feature a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper, a Mexican San Andrés binder, and a blend of fillers from Honduras and Nicaragua. They are crafted at Tabacalera AJ Fernandez Cigars de Nicaragua S.A. and aged in cedar boxes for 15 months after rolling.

“Receiving the Ethiopian Order of the Star is an extraordinary privilege and a lifetime honor,” said Melillo in a press release. “The Knight Commander is my tribute to this esteemed recognition, and I am proud that 100% of all wholesale proceeds will be donated directly to charity, which I hope will significantly impact the lives of Ethiopians.”

Production is limited to only 700 boxes of 12 cigars each.

The blend is masterfully selected by Nicholas Melillo, founder of the company. He left Drew Estate in January 2014 and nearly a year later officially announced the creation of a new Foundation Cigar Co., along with the news of his first blend. The name El Güegüense comes from the name of a satirical drama combining theater, dance and music – an expression of protest against colonial rule in Nicaragua. The box’s imagery borrows from the masks used in the performance. “Güegüense” or “huehue” in Nahuatl (an ancient Aztec language), means “wise man”. The blend is extremely interesting, consisting of two different types of Corojo 99 used for wrapper leaf (Finca Puntalito Jalapa) and binder tobacco (Finca San Jose Jalapa), and the filler is a mix of Criollo 98 and Corojo 99. All tobaccos are Nicaraguan from Jalapa and Esteli. These cigars are a true delight for the senses with a rich flavor, complex and well balanced. A dance of refined aromas, wisely aged cedar, gently mixed with spices and harmonious natural sweetness.
